old-lady

There’s this video going around showing Proposition 8 proponents getting real ugly at a protest with an elderly lady, getting up close to her face, screaming and almost trampling over this poor old lady by none other than the queer mob out in Palms Springs, CA.

Apparently there was this protest going on about Prop. 8 and the old lady decided to show up with a big cross. They ripped the cross from her and stomped on it!

I don’t know, but this lady had every right to do what she did and the Gay proponents had every right to protest.  Yet, I am quite disturbed to see them trampling over an old lady, infringing on her right to speak freely.  That’s so immature, these protesters need to grow up.

You can read the rest of the story here.

The site also shows a video of the ugly scene. Sorry, no captions.  The video is about 3 minute long and you could see things starting to go south just around 2:27 or so.

Why are the oppressed, usually the oppressor?

There’s no place like home, says Dorothy.  That was then.

Nebraska passed a Safe Haven law that was supposed to protect newborns whose mothers abandon them.  The law was passed in mid-September of this year, and to date, 30th ‘child’ have been abandoned.  Of the 30 children, the majority are teens!

Legislators have screwed up by not defining the ‘child’ portion of that law.

Parents of other states desperate to dump their teens have driven out to Nebraska.  I dunno, but, I wonder if the parents are trying to teach their teens something.  Something like, there’s no place like home?

On a lighter note….

Don’t you hate it when you’re in an airport security checkpoint line and see people in front of you who obviously had not flown in eons, or worst yet, families with LOTS of kids!!  You know, you’re gonna be waiting for a while and you’re freaking out thinking that you might miss your flight!!!

Worry no more!  Airports are going to offer a family security lane specifically for families and inexperience fliers to take all the time they need in getting through the security checkpoint.  For a while, approximately 48 airport were part of a pilot to test the family concept.  TSA announced that, by November 20th, ALL airport will have a family lane security checkpoint.

Life in the fast lane coming soon in an airport near you!

Every now and then, we all need a little help from our friends.  So, I’m giving a little help to my friend.  There’s a lot more going on with the Illini, ya know.  I’m bringing it on…

Illibuck series, Buckeye vs Ilini will play for the coveted Illibuck, a turtle that has since passed on but continues in a wooden form.  Let’s hope Juice Williams provides all the juice that Fighting Illini need for this game!  *Takes a swig of Turtle Juice from a shot glass*    ;)

And, finally, as crazy as things are in our world.  Check out Captioned Cats video, it’s sure to put ‘CRAZY” in an enlightening perspective, somewhat.

    Candy ..

Great article! I was surprised that Prop 8 failed and then found the backlash against some of the churches to be .. hypocritical.

    Poor old lady. GEESH!

Your TGIF articles are always great to read. Awesome!

    :o )

Yeah, it was surprising considering the demographics of gays out there. And, from reports that the majority of minorities voted for the ban.

I think they should just ignore each other, the vote was counted and if the Gays wanted to rally about it, let them. I don’t know why the old lady had to rub it in, yet, I didn’t think anyone deserved that crap.

    Crazy shit.

    :)

    Hey Candy,

off the point if you let me….I read Valhallian.com per the Deafread today. This blogger explained the VRS that does not make any sense to me.

I’ve always thought that the VRS with the interpreters should follow the standards. I don’t think that this blogger explained clearly.

I have seen many hearing people who have some hard times hearing other people’s voices during the telephone conversation. I’ve asked my hearing husband about this. He have done that many times.

At times, I have to sign clearly and sometimes, I do not understand the interpreters with different sign languages and I have to ask them what it is. Whenever I catch the interpreter to sign in a different way, it is my responsible to ask the interpreter what the sign means. We are all different kind of methods in sign language.

I honestly don’t think this blogger explained more. He does not get it.

Since you are in Illinois, could you please find out the exact information?

    Here it is:

Sorry for not getting back to you. I came down with something. Looks like nasty stuffs is going around, at least I got it early and should be healthy for the rest of the winter, I hope! I don’t take flu shots, ever.

Anyway…..what he was saying is that Illinois legislators have passed a law making it a requirement that all relay (both video and non-video) have to be certified or something, and Sorenson is asking to be waived (they have a call center in IL too.) They do not hire all interpreters that have RID certification (or NAD.)

So, Sorenson is looking to hire good enuf terp while other VRS like CSDVRS require their terps to be certified. I know for sure CSDVRS and Sprint require their terps to be RID/NAD certified.

It seems that Sorenson is always asking to be exempt from many of the laws. My VP 100 is f..ked up and they are not replacing mine yet because I don’t use their VRS!! But, I have OJO and I don’t use it much because of IP number for those that don’t have OJO. I like OJO. I think that once we have all video phones that can call a ten digit number without IP number (I don’t know if we can now…) then it would be great. It’s called interoperability or something like that. Some people’s IP number stays same for a long time, others like mine changes often. My ISP for some reason, changes my IP once a month. So, it’s hard for other people to call me via IP number.

If you do not understand terp, it is ok to ask them to repeat. I have same problem too because it depends where the call center is, some states use different signs for some words than others…

I hope this explains it, if not, blame it on the meds that is making me drowsy. lol

Ok, I’m outta here…gonna snuggle up and rest. And! get better! :)

Hope your’e feeling better. I got myself a flu shot last week.

As for Valhallian’s blog, he did not explain it all until an anonymous made it clear in the comment area. Not every state accepts the RID certification, that is why many interpreters to use the state certifications due to many financial reasons. Many interpreters could not afford to pay for RID’s fees for every five years. It’s approx. $500 dollars. I think it could go up anyhow.

The reason why Sorenson is trying to make an exemption in the regulation for the interpreters with the State certifications to be included in the video relay system.

That is why Valhallian needs to explain more clearly.

Hi, agree with White Ghost, its unfortunate that the issue was not explained more clearly. As for the protests surrounding Prop 8, I was very much against this proposition primarily because I see it as a civil rights issue. While this segment you shared above portrays the protest against Prop 8 in a bad light, it doesn’t show what the opponents of Prop 8 had to go through prior to it passing, and it barely passed.
The good news is that the California Attorney General has filed for the state’s Supreme Court to Review the Constitutionality of Prop 8, and to date, over 40 legislators have filed joining, as “friends” to overturn this proposition, “the underlying purpose of the constitution is to protect the minorities from the majority” according to these legislators.

    Hi Sheri,

yea, the article does not tell all, there’s always more to the story that meets the eye. Like I said I was surprised that it even passed! I thought the voters would say NO. But, you said it barely passed. I have my own views on this subject, yet, I also have many gay friends… And, I do believe that those that live together in a meaningful intimate relationship (gay or not) should have the same benefits that comes with getting married. There’s many people out there that do not want to get married, yet, they live together, own properties, etc. like most married couples and are not afforded benefits which is unfair. I understand most Gay people want the same benefits and I’m sure there are Gay people that want to get married simply because they love each other. One thing I found out from a gay friend of mine who couldn’t get married but, hoped to get benefits by “Common Law” marriage in a state that allows it. Turns out that Common Law marriage does not even apply to Gays! Anyway, that is a whole other ball game… Thanks for commenting. :)
