So, you wanna know who i am?
“Culturally Deaf” HOH female” I have Attended mainstreamed, public and residental schools.
Deaf parents, deaf siblings, and deaf relatives. All of my children have normal hearing.
ASL was my first language. I”ve used SimCom, PSE, TC, ASL and I speak and write English fairly well.
I live in both worlds. Actually there is ONLY one world, but many sub-worlds within. The deaf community considers their world separate from the mainstream.
Current controversy in the deaf world is the increasing incident of deaf children being implanted with a Cochlear Implant. Personally, I feel that the decision on whether a child should be implanted rests with the parents. I also do see the benefits of ASL as a language for deaf people. It would be nice if parents are flexible with allowing ASL and Cochlear Implants. The fact that I can pretty much pass for a person that does not have a hearing loss and the fact that I have used ASL all my life, tells me that using ASL does not take away the ability to listen and speak. Then again, no one is alike. What works for one might not work for another.
I have held jobs/done tasks (job related) as a Child Care Worker, Tutoring inner city kids, Camp Counselor, Pizza Maker, Bartender, Grounds Keeper, Insurance Clerk, Telephone monitor/Quality Control, Accounting, Typist (offering services to college kids, typing up their papers), Dog walker, House Sitting, Outreach Specialist, Inventory Specialist, Computer Trouble Shooting, Researcher, among others….
Being hard of hearing does not stop me from doing anything my peers can do.
I have completed two years of College and am pretty much ’self-taught’ in many areas of studies.
My hobbies and interests is so vast, just too many to name.
I have traveled to almost every state in the USA, just barely ‘almost’
I have taken my family on some of the most harrowing and out of this world trips that they will never forget.
Life is what you make of it.

yes indeedy! you go girl!
I admire your courage and your strength. It humbles me to ‘meet’ a truly remarkable person such as yourself. I’m totally speechless. Dumbfounded. Envious. All that I can offer right now is… all the best, girl! Go on out there and show the world what you truly got and wow them all. Just so you know, I’m rooting for you.
